2014 INTERVIEW WITH A LIBRARIAN COMPETITION WINNER ANNOUNCED!

The winner of our first 'Interview with a Librarian' Competition was announced on National Libraries Day, Saturday 8 February 2014!

Commenting on the entries, guest judge Nikki Heath, librarian at Werneth School, Stockport, and a past winner of the SLA School Librarian of the Year Award, said: "the fabulous interviews reflect the high quality of school librarians today and make it clear just how much we need librarians of this calibre to drive reading and the love of reading forward in such tough times."

Angela EvansThe first winner of the competition is Angela Evans, Librarian at Ysgol Maes y Gwendraeth, Carmarthenshire. Angela will be awarded a certificate, and her pupil interviewer Celyn will receive a special prize, chosen by Angela in conjunction with Celyn!

Nikki loved "the scope, breadth and diversity of library activities and readers" at Maes y Gwendraeth, and commented on the 'sneaky learning' taking place on Chinese New Year, with the quizzing and other events.

Many thanks to Nikki for giving her time and expertise in judging our entries, and to the pupils and librarians who entered the competition!

Entries for the 2016 competition can be sent to interview[at]sla.southwestwales.co.uk at any time between now and January 2016.

swwsla LAUNCHES NEW 'Interview with a librarian' competition

An bi-annual competition open to all branch members and their pupils/young people.

How it works

One of your pupils/the young people you work with interviews you and sends in, via the website, a transcript of the interview. (You can do this bit if this would work better.)

The entry must be accompanied by a photo of the librarian and the library.
The pupil can ask as many questions as the interviewee would allow, but they must include the 10 questions in the list provided below and a few of their own.

Download list of questions here

Judging:

All entries will be anonymised before being sent to a series of 'guest judges' from outside the branch.

A prize (eg family ticket, voucher, etc) will be sent to the pupil/young person of the winning interview, plus a certificate to the librarian chosen.

The winner's profile will be added to the branch website so that examples of good practice in our area can be highlighted.

Timescale:

Entries should be submitted any time throughout the year before the end of the third week in January; the winner will be announced on National Libraries Day, usually the Saturday after the first week of February.

Exact dates will be posted on the website & calendar.
